TRICARE Retired Reserve (TRR)

TRICARE Retired Reserve (TRR) is a premium-based, health plan available worldwide for purchase by qualified Retired Reserve members and their eligible family members. TRR delivers the TRICARE Select benefit to all covered individuals. This population of Guard and Reserve retirees is commonly referred to as "Gray-Area Retirees." Due to tax law changes, effective January 1, 2019, you will no longer be required to have minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Each January you will still get an IRS Form 1095 from your pay center listing the coverage you had during the previous tax year.

DFAS will provide IRS Form 1095-C to all U.S. military members, and IRS Form 1095-B to all retirees, annuitants, former spouses and all other individuals having TRICARE coverage during all or any portion of tax year 2025. An IRS Form 1095 documents you (and your family members, if applicable) have the minimum essential coverage. These forms will document the information that DFAS will provide to the IRS on yourself and your authorized family members. According to the IRS, these forms are not required to prepare or file income tax returns but will be available via myPay no later than 31 January 2026.

G.I. Bill

The Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible Service members and Veterans for programs such as: college, business, technical, or vocational school; apprenticeship / on-the-job training; correspondence courses; remedial, deficiency, and refresher training (in some cases); and flight training. You usually have 10 years to use your MGIB benefits, but the time limit can be fewer or more years depending on the situation.

The Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (DoD-TAP) provides information, access to important documents, and training to ensure Service members separating from Active Duty are prepared for their next step in life - whether pursuing additional education, finding a job in the public or private sector, or starting their own business. New virtual urgent care option for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries in the US

FALLS CHURCH, VA, February 11, 2026 - Are you enrolled in a TRICARE Prime plan? If you see a primary care manager at a military hospital or clinic, you may now have a new way to get urgent care. The Defense Health Agency has expanded its virtual urgent care options in the U.S. This allows TRICARE Prime enrollees ages 12 and older to schedule virtual urgent care through the Military Health System Nurse Advice Line.
