Summary

Family Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (FSGLI) is a program that provides term life insurance coverage to the Spouses and dependent Children of Servicemembers' insured under Service members Group Life Insurance (SGLI). The Service member pays the premium for Spousal coverage. Dependent Children are insured at no cost. It provides up to a maximum of $100,000 of insurance coverage for Spouses, not to exceed the Service members SGLI amount, and $10,000 for dependent Children.

Eligibility

Spouses and Children of retired Service members are not eligible for FSGLI.

Spouses covered under FSGLI at the time of the Service member's retirement may convert their coverage to an individual policy of life insurance with a commercial company, selected from the Participating Companies listing, within 120 days following the date the Service member's SGLI coverage ends. Spouses may convert at standard premium rates, without having to provide proof of good health. You can find more FSGLI conversion information at: https://benefits.va.gov/insurance/fsgli.asp

SGLI Online Enrollment System: Effective October 1, 2018, Coast Guard and NOAA members can manage their Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) coverage using the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES). Coast Guard and NOAA members join the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines in using the new system. All Service members should look for information from their service about when they should access SOES to confirm and certify their SGLI elections. To access SOES, sign into the MilConnect portal at https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/
