WIESBADEN, Germany, December 9, 2021 - The U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program is gearing up to ensure single service members here have something to do and are involved with others during the upcoming holiday season in Germany.
BOSS is a program that helps commanders get after the well-being and morale of single and unaccompanied Soldiers in units here at Wiesbaden.
The program began in 1989 to balance the emphasis on increased family-oriented programming. It is one of more than 200 Army morale, welfare and recreation programs and has an MWR advisor assigned to it.
The BOSS program is for any single military member, no matter what service they are in, Rodney Hamilton with MWR said.
The program has events scheduled throughout the year, Hamilton said, although around the holiday, even more events are scheduled. Some of the activities already completed included bowling, go kart racing and volunteering to help with the community Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.
Future events scheduled are a Wiesbaden Christmas Market trip on Dec. 11, Movie Night at the Taunus Theater on Dec. 17 and a BOSS Social Night at the Warrior Zone on Dec. 24.
Times and dates will be locked in during the Dec. 8 meeting at the Warrior Zone.
The program covers a lot of ground but is always looking for more participation. “What the program is in need of right now is for four or five service members to volunteer to drive the BOSS vehicle to get members to the different events,” Hamilton said.
Although the program receives some money for its events, Andrews Credit Union is a community partner that also assists with funding. Current members of BOSS are exploring fund raising events in order to make money for events they want to coordinate in the future. The program has about 50 active members, Hamilton said.
Single service members can get more information by going to the Warrior Zone, Building 1214 on Clay Kaserne, or calling 0611 143 548 9816. The Warrior Zone is open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 8:30 p.m. It is closed on Sunday, Monday and federal holidays.
There are also meetings scheduled for Wednesday nights at 5 p.m. at the Warrior Zone and all single service members are invited to get involved with discussions on what to do and other items of interest for the group.
