Benefit Highlights

Dental work being done The Federal Employee Dental and Vision Benefits Enhancement Act of 2004 provided the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) the opportunity to establish arrangements under which dental and vision benefits are made available to Federal employees, retirees, and their dependents.

This Program allows dental insurance and vision insurance to be purchased on a group basis which means competitive premiums and no pre-existing condition limitations for enrollment. Enrollment takes place during the annual Federal Benefits Open Season in November and December. Eligible participants can choose among six nationwide and four regional dental plans, and from four nationwide vision plans. Nationwide plans also offer international coverage.

Uniformed Service members:

Upon retirement you are eligible to enroll in FEDVIP dental coverage and, if enrolled in a TRICARE health plan, FEDVIP vision coverage. You are considered newly eligible for the program and have 60 days from the date you became eligible (your retirement date) to enroll in a FEDVIP dental and/or vision plan.

If your Family member enrolled in FEDVIP vision coverage while you were on active duty, they are no longer eligible as a primary enrollee upon your retirement. You or your Family member must notifyBENEFEDS and their coverage will be inactivated. You must then enroll in FEDVIP dental and/or vision coverage as a retired uniformed Service member and add your eligible Family members as dependents to your coverage.
